Mr Gaiman, I’ve heard it said that good writing, really good writing, has to cost you something emotionally for it to work. Otherwise it’s elaborate scribbling. Do you agree with this concept?

I’m sure it’s true for some writers, just as it’s not true for others. Some writers use their heads, some use their hearts, some do it by word-feel and some by dreams. Why make rules, and arbritrary rules at that?
