This came out of a poetry exercise, in which I was supposed to use nonsense words to write about love. It didn’t really work out that way, but I am pleased with the results nonetheless.

love
not heresy —
a symphony
a golden thread spun
by sunlight
a mooring
sable fell
a blanket
warm until
a silence
comfort
the rapture of known company
a drop of rain
cool on the naked shoulder
a tree
greening
a moon
in twilight gleaming
a great dark ocean
a long drop —
and the welcome vast unknown
